A mouse is another important input device of the computer. It is known as a pointing device because it has a pointer arrow on the screen. This arrow moves on the screen as we move the mouse on the mouse pad.
A mouse can have two or three buttons and a tail like wire which connects it to the CPU. Buttons on the mouse help to choose commands. It also has a ball beneath it which makes its movement smooth. The rolling of the ball controls the movement of the mouse.
A mouse is very easy to use. It is held in one hand and mover across on a mouse pad. It is used to move, draw, open and close icone on the monitor.
A mouse has the following actions:
- Click
- Right-click
- Double – click
- Drag- and-drop

What is Clicking in Computer
If we want to click, we can press the left mouse button gently once and release it. It will make a clicking sound. We click once generally to select an item on the monitor.
What is Double-Clicking in Computer
If we want to double-click, we can press the left mouse button gently twice within a short period of time and release it. We double- click generally to open a window or a program.
What do we see when we take our mouse pointer over My Computer icon on the monitor and double click on it? We see the My Computer window appears on the screen as shown in the figure above.
What is Right-Clicking on a Mouse
If we want to right click, we can press the right mouse button and release it. As we click the right mouse button, a list of commands appears on the screen as shown in the figure.
Dragging and Dropping in mouse
We drag-and-drop with a mouse if we want to move or copy an item. For example, if we want to move the ‘My Computer’ icon, we just point it. Now we press the left mouse button and hold it.
Holding the button, we drag the arrow to the position where want to place the icon and release it. Now the ‘My Computer icon hasgot a new place.
